a) This season's color trends!
Get ready to see these puppies all over the place - wall paint, dresses, furnishings - and don't be surprised if you find yourself using them in design, too. When I'm stuck, I often Pantone's color trends as a place to start. I know if I can find I color that I like for the story, I can go SOMEWHERE with it. I'm more than a little bit reluctant to share my 'secret', and hope it can be helpful for the rest of the class, especially with our upcoming Meredith assignment.

This article addresses typography in practice in NYC. It's a really great critique (and history lesson) of older lettering found around the city. The best part is that, "Nearly all of the inscriptions and signs discussed here involve handmade letters. That is, there are no typefaces." The signs impart a greater level of character to the buildings; they enhance the architecture or play off of it, not different from the role of typography in graphic design.
